What stories do the objects we carry tell? How do they bear witness to our lives and memories? If you were to contribute to a queer time capsule, what would you choose to include?
Join Zihan for Queerealia, a performance lecture and workshop that explores the relationship between objects, memory, and time. The title plays on the term “realia” – a teaching tool that uses everyday objects as instructional aids – to consider how queer lives are remembered through materiality. Developed from Zihan’s 2019 performance Catamite and his 2015 installation Queer Objects: An Archive for the Future, Queerealia invites participants to reflect on how realia transmits and preserves queer presence.
This intimate workshop welcomes participants to examine personal objects through writing prompts and group discussion. Together, we will explore how objects contain traces of our past, present, and possible futures. Throughout the session, you will be invited to share and reflect in a supportive environment.
Please bring one object that holds a queer memory you wish to explore, along with a journal, writing materials, and an open mind.
